Half Past Ten

I had been waiting
on watching the setting sun
But when I looked up
The sky was adorned with stars

I have enough sound
to cover the mounds of hope
to help me ignore
the lines of Captain Obvious

Although I tore apart
and burned away
everything that pieced us together
is blowing in the wind

The song in your mane
the poetry of your name
the art in your sense
puts me on the offense

That look on your face
begs me on
and the curve of your brow
dares me to try

Now when I close my eyes
you have to close yours
and feel out the gravity
that pulls our lips together

the five fifteen pulls away
leaving me stranded
coughing out the pollution
on the drunken homeless

Standing alone
inside the dingy kiosk
checking my pockets
for the nothing I can't hold

I'm always missing the change
for the bus fare
to take me away from my chance
to ruin it all

The song in your mane
the poetry of your name
the art in your sense
puts me on the offense

That look on your face
calls me out
and the flick of your wrist
makes my tongue a prisoner

If I were to close my eyes
you'd have to close yours
to feel the gravity
that forces us together

On the broken wrist watch
dangling from the power lines
a quarter past forever
never becomes a deadline

Although I'm barely
half past ten
I can see the consequences
of keeping hearts on layaway

When my message
finally comes around
we'll be worlds apart
were we there? where?

When you hit high noon
How can I assume
If you drop-in Drop-out
I'd be on your expanding mind

So the next time
your ladder crashes
against my window frame
I'll throw open the curtains

To Welcome you in
and find something to cherish
before we lose ourselves
to the vastness of place

Closing the space between us
for this moment at least
to keep as a marker
and gauge the Ace

The feel of your mane
the sound of my name
the heat in your breath
lets down my defense

That look on your face
drags me in deep
the curve of your spine
wants me to deny

I'm gonna close my eyes
even if you wont close yours
so I can find the force
that brings people together
