I'll Be

I have a secret for you
lean in close and listen up
as i place my finger in front of my mouth I laugh
see here's the thing

And i shouldn't laugh
Tough days take their toll
sweetheart you've been working so hard
you don't even see

"You have me
I have your back
If you ever feel you can't do anymore
just look back to me"

You rub your eyes
your brow descends
the lines on your forehead
show me you can't believe that

Inhale exhale
he's not in a playful mood
take his hands
let him feel your warmth

Maybe you don't remember
those days however many years ago
I did it for you then
and now, I still stand

you pet my head
and smooth your hair
you turn towards the cityscape
and sigh heavily

"Just go home
you're not ready
you wont be able to keep your nose clean
if i touch you now"

as the tears begin
I hear your heart cracking
the world is shattering underfoot
Still I stand

your hand was cold
pressed against mine
too much concrete has hardened you
I have no weapon

you know full well
we had both been searching for years
until we crashed
into one another

Life Is hard
I have become strong
I've always wanted to wear my camo
on the outside

"my home is here
with you, always, forever"
I made a promise to myself
I would never be alone again

We stare without seeing
the grey buildings
this cage they build for you
will never hold you again

my hand is squeezed
inhale exhale
how much more do i have to say?
before you accept

you turn around
plop down on the steps
and light another cigarette
to forget this

I steal it away
throw it off the building
you will listen to the things you must hear

"I am here
completely for you
All you need is a shoulder to lean on
LOOK AT ME!
I'll be here
no matter what
if you destroy the world I know
I'll be home"

you hide your face
in my hair
slamming yourself against me
breathing on my neck

a smile apples
my cheeks into my eyes
even if i shouldn't
I am amused

I cannot deny
I love you
the happiness that it sparks within me
I will not hide

I am here
completely for you
All you need is a shoulder to lean on
I'll hold you
I'll be here
no matter what
if you destroy this world
I know I'll be home with you
