Ratta Tat Tat

It had only been a short while
And we had some problems
Everything that meant the world
Seems so insignificant now

All of my misguided focus
On the things I thought you
Could have been doing better
Have become dust in the wind

I am so very sorry
For the mistakes
My broken memory
and sharpened tongue

It was always so important
For me to get my way
Prove my victory
Take every Last say

But as the jets exploded above
And the ash showered down
Flames igniting the sky
Terror filled the street --

You are my most perfect love
Saved me from a stubborn frown
If we have to fall over and die
Let’s share the last of our heat

When they came out from hiding
It was your hand pulling me away
Sliding through alleys and avenues
My heart sprouted wings
We touched the ground as angels
Fleeing in fear, still I smiled
All my doubt melted to
reinforce our abused muscles

The city walls faded behind us
The empty country side stinking
Was welcoming, we were alone
And I thought we were safe

We weren’t looking properly
We fell, kissing we celebrated
Laughter filled the wet air
Broken by the sharpness of a gun

Frozen, you tried to shove me aside
I Knew you were worth everything now
They will not have you
You are spoken for

I turned to face them
A firing squad versus one.
A contemptuous laugh
The chorus sang rat-ta-tat-tat

I was tackled to the ground
A grunt followed by a thump
Your shaky hand reached out
Your Eyes were brilliantly shining

Of course we stood, together
Finally, I knew why I was here
To be with you here and now
With smiles burned across our faces

1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4,
The chorus sang rat-ta-tat-tat
Quick blunt metallic pain
My hand impressed with yours

My body gave way
Coughing replaced breathing
But as best I could
I spouted my last words

I love you most of all
Thank you for this wonder
Although and untimely end
I can die happy now
